So over the weekend I watched The Joker for the first time, even though I vowed to myself I would watch it the day it came out in theaters. I never truly followed all that superhero/villian type of stuff, but I’ve always been a fan of the Phoenix brothers and was beyond thrilled that Joaquin was going to be starring at the Joker. I would deem the movie as a thriller, not really a horror type. But while watching this academy award winner, I couldn’t help but feel sympathetic for the man. He was brought up by a mentally ill girl who tied him to a ventilator when he was younger and was beat, which ultimately led to his neurological disorder that caused him to constantly laugh, even at situations where laughing was highly inappropriate. Because of this disorder, he was made fun of and looked down on by the people of Gotham. It was interesting, watching this murder-crazed psychopath perform terrible acts, and feel nothing but sadness for him. Also quite concerning I felt empathetic for a fictional serial killer, but that’s besides the point. I would definitely rate The Joker a 5/5 stars, for the movie truly encompassed the sick mind and sad story behind the Joker.

Born in the pit of the United States in St. Louis, Mo, Selma Hotich is the daughter of refugee parents, and another one of those people who’s strongly convinced they were born in the wrong decade. She’s deeply committed to a relationship surrounding Hot Fries and late-night binges of Rick and Morty to fill the emptiness within her love life. If not strumming her guitar or annoyingly singing the same verse to a song over again, you’ll probably find her driving around West County alongside her twin sister, while blasting Sublime Essential’s on Apple music.
