Being stuck in quarantine leaves for lots of time to find new songs and listen to ones that we find relatable to the time that’s being spent at home. Here are a few that I have found to be comforting at this odd time:
The song starts with the lyrics “It feels like I only go backwards, baby” which to me describes the way whenever we are getting to the end of a quarantine order, they only end up extending it. This makes us all feel like we are just repeating what we have been doing everyday all day, and that it isn’t improving in anyway, and that nothing is improving or getting better. ” I got my hopes up again, oh no, not again” describes the way we hope that every time we hope the virus is slowing down and things are improving, more deaths and cases arise. The overall song is one of my absolute favorites, and I don’t usually listen to much Tame Impala, but this song is definitely an exception.
I have always been a big fan of Vanic and the songs he usually remakes into his own. Be Together by Major Lazer is easily my favorite. There are lyrics that lead up to the chorus, and they say “I miss you so much… Tell me, is this freedom, baby? Chasin’ after danger…” which to me describes the way we all miss our friends and outside family, and that maybe leaving can be thrilling or a bit dangerous because it isn’t something any of us are supposed to be doing. “Maybe if the stars align, maybe if our worlds collide, maybe on the dark side we could be together” embodies the feeling that we all feel that if things hopefully begin to improve and the virus begins to slow down, we could all be free and together we ones that we have not been able to be around and see. The EDM feel to the song builds for a nice song to blast through speakers and dance to, so it is definitely uplifting and a good one to listen to lift up our spirits.
I started listening to Rex Orange County about 4 years ago and have always loved him and his music, but I started listening to Tyler, The Creator about 4 months ago and love his odd, very spontaneous songs and music. “Find some time to do something, Boredom got a new best friend” is repeated multiple times throughout the song, which to me speaks in the way that because everyday is like a scene from Groundhog Day, we all easily get bored with doing the things we have been doing everyday. Boredom has reached an all time high to where we now call it our Best Friend, for its the only “thing” we spend most of our time with.
